Popular Billiards Games For Beginners

By Jim Ryan

There are many different types of billiard games. Two of the most popular games in billiards are Eight Ball and Nine Ball. These are followed by Cut Throat and One Pocket. Snooker is up there pretty high, but it all depends on which country you are from.

One type of billiards game that used to be popular is a game called Straight Pool. Its popularity has dropped over the years, as the game takes a lot longer to complete compared to 8-ball and 9-ball, which are much newer billiards games then Straight Pool.

The game of Eight Ball has gained a lot of popularity in the United States due to the fact that it is the most common game that is played in bars. The game uses all 15 balls and the sides are divided by either stripes or solids, with the eight ball being the last ball that is hit in.

The billiards game that gets the most tournament time would be 9 ball, besides the trick shot challenges. Nine ball is usually played best out of 9 racks, or whoever gets to 5 first. You do not have to call shots and the object is to get the nine ball in any way you can, shooting the balls in the respectable order.

If you want a really fun game to really test your pool playing skills then you should try to play one pocket. This is a game where you have 8 balls that you must get into one pocket only, similar to 8-ball besides the one pocket only rule.

If you want to play a billiards game where three can play at once, than Cut Throat is the game for you. Each player has five balls that are theirs, and the objective of the game is to hit in any ball but your own, the last person that has one or more of their balls on the table wins the game.

There are many other games in pocket billiards. You could visit Wikipedia and do a search for billiards game for a pretty complete list. These are just some of the more popular ones that you will find. At Wikipedia you will find details and rules of every game. - 30522
